Tell Us About Your Design

This is a jacket with an asymmetrical hem, puffed sleeves, piped hem, & patchworked body and sleeve. The patchwork fabric for this jacket was all hand layed out and sewn prior to garment construction. The sleeves have a dramatic silhouette going from fullness at the top to a very fitted wrist. There is a red silk lining to the jacket to add a little more color. The fabrics used to create the patchwork include paisley brocade, wool plaid, velvets, and various printed fabrics.

Who or What Were Your Biggest Inspirations During This Process?

Creating something from things you already own really inspired me for this garment. I found scraps and began to create the fabric. I wanted to keep the design fairly simple because the fabric speaks for itself. Another inspiration was 70's rock and roll along with a pair of patchwork pants I used to own many years ago.

Which Retailer(s) Would You Most Like to Sell Your Design?

Bergdorf Goodman & Barney's. I would also really like to sell to boutiques who carry one of a kind pieces as well.

Judges’ Rating: 3/5

Judges’ Comments: “Like the shape of the jacket and the detail from the patchwork. To make it more sell-able it might have to be one or the other though…the patchwork or the shape. Overall its very fun and cute. Good job!” – Shirin Askari
